- Your screenshots stay on your Mac. Capturing, editing, text recognition and redaction run on-device.
- Something is uploaded only when you click Share with Preenshot Cloud, and only the image you chose.
- You can delete a shared image anytime.
The Preenshot app
Preenshot processes your screenshots and recordings locally on your Mac. Text recognition and sensitive-information detection use Apple's on-device Vision framework. We don't receive your screenshots, the text in them, or how you use the app.
If capture history is turned on, Preenshot keeps your recent captures (the original, unredacted images) in the app's folder on your Mac so you can reopen them. You can clear the history or turn it off in Settings. Your settings are stored on your Mac too.
Share links (Preenshot Cloud)
When you click Share, the app uploads that single image (PNG or JPEG, up to 10 MB) and creates a link like preenshot.com/s/abc12345. With it we process:
- The image, stored so the link works. Anyone who has the link can view the image, so share links are unlisted but not private. We ask search engines not to index share pages.
- A random device identifier that the app generates. It is not tied to your name or Apple ID, and we use it only to limit abuse (rate limiting). We don't store it with your image.
- Your IP address, which every internet request includes. We use it for rate limiting and security. Our hosting provider may keep it in short-lived request logs.
- Subscription status. To check that a Cloud subscription is active, the app may send Apple-signed transaction information. It identifies the purchase, not you. We never receive your name, email address or payment details.
We don't sell or share this data, and we don't use it for advertising or profiling.
How long we keep shared images
- Images shared with an active Cloud subscription stay up until you delete them.
- Links created without an active subscription (for example, trial or preview links) expire and are deleted 30 days after upload.
- If your Cloud subscription ends, we may delete your images 30 days later.
Deleting a shared image
Delete any link from the app. The image is removed from storage right away. Cached copies on the content delivery network can take a few minutes to expire, and we can't recall copies other people have already downloaded. If you no longer have the Mac that created a link, email us the link and we'll delete it.
Payments
Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store, under Apple's privacy policy. We receive no payment information.
Service providers
- Vercel Inc. hosts this website and stores shared images (Vercel Blob).
- Apple Inc. distributes the app and processes payments.
This website
preenshot.com is a static website. It sets no cookies and loads no analytics, fonts or scripts from third parties. Like any web host, our provider processes your IP address to deliver pages.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data and to object to its processing. Because we hold so little, the most useful step is usually deleting a link. For anything else, contact us and we'll help.
Children
Preenshot isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above. If a change is significant, we'll also note it in the app's release notes.
